How we rank
Every operator on our nightly list is scored against the same written method. Commission has no bearing on rank. Here is what we look at and how the points add up.
The four pillars
Every operator gets a score out of 100, split across four weighted pillars:
- Payout speed (40 points) — how quickly and plainly the operator says money comes back
- Licence and integrity (25 points) — who issued the licence, who owns the business, any public regulator action
- Bonus fairness (20 points) — wagering, game weighting, maximum-bet rules, and the gap between headline and cashable value
- Support (15 points) — which support channels exist, when they are open, and how clear the complaints route is
Payout speed — 40 points
We read the operator's payment and withdrawal pages: stated processing times, the withdrawal methods open to Australian players, limits, fees, and when identity checks happen.
- 40 points — stated processing under 24 hours, limits and fees published, identity checks explained before the first payment
- 30 points — stated processing under 72 hours, limits and fees published
- 20 points — stated processing up to 7 days, or limits only partly published
- 10 points — processing time not stated, or fees unclear
- 0 points — pending periods that let a withdrawal be cancelled and replayed, or identity requirements that only appear at cash-out
More in our briefing What "10-minute payout" really means.
Licence and integrity — 25 points
We record which authority issued the operator's licence and check it against that authority's public register. Many operators that accept Australian players are licensed outside Australia. The ACMA explains which online services are allowed in Australia and what that means for you.
- 25 points — licence verifiable on the regulator's register, owning company named, no public regulator findings
- 15 points — licence verifiable, ownership only partly disclosed
- 5 points — licence verifiable, but with a recorded regulator finding in the last 24 months
- 0 points — no licence we can verify, or active regulator action
Bonus fairness — 20 points
We model each welcome offer from start to finish. The headline percentage means little; the cashable value is what counts. We work it out from the stated wagering, game weighting, maximum-bet rules and typical slot returns.
- 20 points — cashable value above 60% of headline value
- 15 points — 40 to 60% cashable
- 10 points — 20 to 40% cashable
- 5 points — under 20% cashable
- 0 points — terms with unclear clauses, changes after the fact, or excluded countries not disclosed up front
The maths is set out in The A$5,000 welcome that ends at A$40.
Support — 15 points
We look at the support the operator publishes: live chat, email, opening hours, and how a complaint is escalated, including to the regulator named in the licence.
- 15 points — live chat around the clock, a named complaints process and an external escalation route
- 10 points — live chat with stated hours and a complaints process
- 5 points — email or chatbot only
- 0 points — no working support channel
What we don't score
We leave these out on purpose. They are easy to inflate and reward marketing budgets over substance:
- Size of the game library (bigger isn't better)
- Whether there is a mobile app (most players use the website on their phone)
- How polished the operator's own site looks
- How many payment logos are on display
How rankings change
The top spot goes to the highest-scoring operator that hasn't held it in the previous seven days. The other seven positions follow by score, with ties broken on payout speed.
An operator can drop overnight if its terms change without notice, if a regulator takes public action, or if we receive a credible report of withheld withdrawals.
